“Ben has building on his dream since he was 18 to produce a "generation of young New Zealanders who have a passion and purpose in the growth of their communities and nation". Ben is both a thinker, a dreamer and a doer. He sets a goal, and he goes for it. He accomplishes things, he more than often hits the mark, but no matter what - he learns from his journey and sets new bolder braver targets based on what he has learned for his future goals. The leadership qualities that I admire the most about Ben is his ability to foster strong core teams and engage others in a participatory leadership environment. He creates opportunities for others to step up and lead when their skills are called for and recede back when they are done. He builds phenomenal teams. He sends out a call - engaging young people on a heart level. He asks for help and backing, in a way that builds a family of people who feel like they are all essential to reaching the goals together. And of course, they are. He is the consummate networker - and is constantly making connections around him. He connects young with old, money with ideas and hope with opportunity. Ben is not afraid to fail. He recognizes that when you are working at the bleeding edge of social innovation - that there is no way of being sure about something - you just have to try. And I think this courage to be experimental and sometimes miss the mark is the key to his success, because he soaks up the learning and charges on. Our culture doesn't feel comfortable about failure, so I salute this quality in him. I don't think there are any limits for Ben, apart from the ones he imposes on himself. I look forward with great interest to see where his path takes him. He makes a great business leader, he could be a compelling politician or a powerful advocate for change or a fantastic father. He will probably do it all.”
